Classical guitar with a particular focus on Spanish and Latin American repertoire, contemporary South American composers, and original works.
Claudio Garay is a classical guitarist and composer, educated at the University of Gothenburg, where he obtained two Master of Fine Arts in Music Performance in classical guitar.
His musical work is characterized by a strong focus on tone, musical presence, and artistic depth. His repertoire spans the classical guitar tradition from the 17th century to the present, including works by composers such as Weiss, Sor, Tárrega, Albéniz, and Barrios, as well as modern South American composers and his own compositions.
Garay has performed in a wide range of concert settings, both as a soloist and in chamber music formations, in churches and cultural venues as well as on concert stages in Sweden, Denmark, Romania, Hungary and the United States. He has been featured on Swedish Television (SVT), the nation’s public broadcaster, and his music has been aired on P2, Sweden’s distinguished classical music radio channel. His artistry also extends to film, where he appears as a performing musician in Harry & Sonja by Björn Runge, starring the acclaimed Swedish actor Stellan Skarsgård.
Alongside his concert career, he is also a certified music teacher with extensive experience in teaching, ensemble direction, and ensemble performance. In his work, concert performance, pedagogy, and personal artistic creation come together in a musical whole where the guitar’s tone, expression, and lyrical qualities are at the center.
